This was the third point at which we had to cross this river on the way to a nutrition meeting with mothers who had malnourished children. While it was clear in the valley, it had rained in the mountains and at the next river crossing we were forced to turn back as the river became impassable. (Unfortunately I have no Photo of the last crossing since I was forced to bag my camera in multiple layers of covering before the failed attempt and I did not want to disturb the now wet wrappings.) We barely made it back without being swept away. This is the same river that young children and women on their way to market must repeatedly traverse to either get to school or market and I can assure you the peril is quite real. |
